Charlotte is a Barrister in the Tax Litigation and Advisory Team. She was called to the Bar in 2007 and completed her pupillage at a leading London Commercial Chancery Chambers prior to joining The Khan Partnership LLP in 2010.
During pupillage, she experienced drafting, advisory and advocacy aspects of a broad range of complex and high value commercial and chancery litigation. In particular, she assisted in the preparation of MTIC tax fraud cases, VAT appeals and applications for Judicial Review of HM Revenue and Customs decisions, as well as multinational contactual disputes and trust litigation.
Charlotte’s practice at The Khan Partnership LLP encompasses advisory and litigation work on all tax-related matters, across all direct and indirect taxes.
As well as assisting in the preparation of larger multi million pound VAT appeals, Charlotte regularly represents clients in the First-tier (Tax) Tribunal.
In addition, Charlotte has provided advice in relation to complex and wide ranging HMRC investigations involving income tax, corporation tax and VAT, NIC and PAYE assessment appeals, employee benefits, taxation of director’s loan accounts, compound interest claims, place of supply rules, applications for Judicial Review of retrospective legislation and abuse arguments surrounding tax mitigation schemes.
Her experience and practice also extend to commercial and chancery disputes. She has assisted and provided advice in breach of trust claims, international asset tracing claims, the successful application and execution of worldwide freezing and search orders across mulitple jurisdictions.
Charlotte also regularly advises on the application and scope of the EU, UK and UN sanction regimes in relation to a number of different jurisdictions.
Charlotte’s rights of audience mean that she is able to receive instructions and represent clients in all courts. As well as her experience in the Tax Tribunal, she has represented clients in the County Court and High Court in relation to commercial disputes.
Charlotte read Law followed by the Tax LLM at King’s College, London. She has also been awarded the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s Advanced Diploma in International Taxation. She has an advanced level of French, having studied at the Sorbonne, University of Paris, for a year during her undergraduate degree.
