Gordon was called to the Bar in 1973, with an initial career in the British Army Legal Service, followed by a 28 year career as a Lawyer with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Gordon offers clients a wealth of legal expertise in the investigation and defence of HMRC civil and criminal investigations, serious fraud, VAT, customs and excise disputes and judicial review of HMRC decisions.

Gordon was Deputy Head of HM Customs and Excise Solicitor Office (now HMRC) from 1993-2005. Gordon was in charge of all HM Customs and Excise non criminal advisory and litigation work across the entire spectrum of HM Customs and Excise from 1993-1999.

From 1999 until 2005 he was Head of all HM Customs and Excise UK criminal prosecutions responsible for all UK criminal prosecutions, criminal advisory and legal matters. Throughout his career, Gordon has handled many complex, and at times, highly sensitive fraud and other litigation work, both criminal and civil.

Gordon is a specialist in European law, having spent large parts of his career advising on this complex area. He has conducted multiple cases in the European Court of Justice on questions of European law affecting VAT and customs and excise. A two year period of his career was spent working in Brussels working for the European Commission Legal Service.
