Bribery and corruption is now firmly on the radar of UK regulators and prosecutors.  The issue was lately thrown into stark relief by the Serious Fraud Office's investigation into BAE defence contracts and in financial services by the FSA's enforcement action against AON Limited, which cost the company £5.25million before remediation.  The Government is set to maintain the momentum with the recent pulbication of a draft bill that will reform the UK's antiquated corruption law.  John Benstead examines the implications.

Michelle Sloane to speak on Customs and Excise matters at the Multimodal Conference 2009

The Annual Multimodal Conference is to take place at the NEC in Birmingham from 28-30 April 2009.  The event is the UK's foremost transport and logistics exhibition and is attended by the key industry figures, ranging from buyers, sellers and shippers to freight forwarders and equipment suppliers.

Michelle Sloane will be speaking at UKWA's business surgery on 28 April between 9am and 1pm, where she will be giving advice on customs and excise matters in the industry.

International Tax Review - John Benstead believes that only a new VAT system in the EU will defeat MTIC fraud

In the March edition of the International Tax Review, partners John Benstead and Hassan Khan examine the European Union's attempt to improve the fight against fiscal fraud.
