Hassan Khan Solicitors raise £32,000 for the Indian Disaster Relief Fund
The Khan Partnership (at the time, known as Hassan Khan & Co) has raised £32,000 for the Indian Ocean Disaster Relief fund. The money was raised during a charity raffle during an “Indian Summer Gala Ball” on 15 November 2007 attended by Emile Heskey, Mike Gatting OBE as well as clients, friend and members of the firm. The evening was sponsored by Boucheron, the French jewellers, Grange Hotels and Cobra beer.
“We are grateful to our guests and sponsors for helping to build a sports centre and swimming pool at the Weligama Community Welfare and Education Sports Centre in Sri Lanka,” said Hassan Khan, founder and principal of Hassan Khan & Co. Solicitors. “This centre will provide the opportunity for deprived members of the Weligama community to improve their health and self-esteem in a productive and pleasurable manner”.
The firm anticipates making the charity ball an annual event to continue its support of the initiatives of the Indian Ocean Disaster Fund.
The Indian Ocean Disaster Relief Fund (IODR) is a UK Registered Charity working to alleviate the suffering of children and families in the Indian Ocean region through the provision of sustainable interventions that improve the capacity of local organisations and the livelihoods of local people, especially children and young people. The Weligama Community Welfare & Education Centre is an IODR long term development project. It is currently being built on a 4 acre site near Weligama town in Southern Sri Lanka. The Weligama centre will provide sustainable services and become a centre of excellence to the community for years to come.
